Privacy policy
We designed Kinring to hold as little about you as possible. This explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Last updated · 6 July 2026
This policy describes how Kinring (“Kinring”, “we”, “us”) handles personal data when you use our website and order a print. We are the data controller for that processing. If you have any question about it, email hello@kinring.com.
The short version
- You don’t need an account to design or buy a poster.
- Your family’s names and birthdays stay in your browser while you design. We don’t keep them on our servers.
- Your finished print file is stored privately and is not publicly accessible.
- Your order carries only what’s needed to fulfil it — never your family’s names or birthdays.
- We don’t sell your data. Ever.
What we collect, and why
Family details you enter (names, birthdays)
The details you type to build your poster are stored locally in your browser (in localStorage) so you can leave and come back. They are used to render your artwork. When the design assistant needs to interpret an answer, the minimum necessary text is sent to our AI provider for that single request and is not stored by them or used to train their models. We do not log your names, birthdays, or answers on our servers.
Your order
Checkout and payment are handled by Shopify. To fulfil an order, Shopify processes the details you provide there — your name, email, shipping address, and payment information (card details go to the payment processor, not to us). The order we attach to your print carries only an anonymous poster reference, the size, and the frame — not your family’s names or birthdays.
Your print file
The image we print is stored as a private file with our storage provider (Cloudflare R2), keyed by an anonymous identifier. It isn’t published or linked publicly. A short-lived, signed link is created only when it must be sent to our print partner to produce your order.
Fulfilment
To print and ship, we share your shipping details and the print file with our print-and-delivery partner. They act as a processor on our behalf and use that data only to make and deliver your order.
Analytics
We use privacy-conscious product analytics to understand which parts of the site work. These events are stripped of personal information — no names, birthdays, poster contents, or order identifiers — and are used only in aggregate to improve the product.
Cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. The site uses:
- Essential storage — your browser’s
localStorageto hold your in-progress design so it isn’t lost. This never leaves your device. - Checkout cookies — set by Shopify when you proceed to buy, so the cart and payment work.
- Analytics — used to measure aggregate usage, as described above.
You can clear this storage at any time from your browser settings; doing so will discard any unsaved design.
How long we keep things
Local design data lives in your browser until you clear it or start over. Order records and print files are retained only as long as needed to fulfil the order, provide support, and meet legal and accounting obligations, then deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Under the GDPR you also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. To exercise any of these, email hello@kinring.com and we’ll respond within the timeframe the law requires.
Children
Kinring is intended for adults buying a gift. A poster may celebrate children’s birthdays, but the account holder and buyer must be an adult.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and, for significant changes, make it clear on the site. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy. See also our terms of service.
